dr ellas k stefanakos has been funded by the national science foundation to study alter native methods of developing commercially and scien tifically our method will be the use of currents and we feel that if this is successful this pro cess will be useful engineers temperature controlled method of developing crystals said stefanakos generally scientists and a dinator of research activities for the new rockwell solid state electronics laboratory at a&t has been granted 64,700 for a three year study of electronic devices such as transitors solar cells and semi-conductor diodes stefanakos also coor stefanakos saidthat,in in itiating this solid state resear ch a&t becomes only the fourth college in the nation to study in this field the others he said are cornell university massachussetts marked the philadelphia the oldest alumni chapter of north carolina a&t state university the philadelphia chapter celebrated 50 years of existence last weekend in an elaborate anniversary banquet and chapter was founded on october 6 1927 when seven a&t graduates got together in the city of brotherly love the university now jias more than 77 chapters throughout on hand to lead the celebra tion was claudius hackney the only living survivor of the founders it was indeed a nostalgic evening when the a&t alum ni recalled the founding of the philadelphia chapter even before a&t had a na tional alumni organization longtime service to the university observance by honoring dr.lewis c dowdy chancellor of a&t for his others present from the greensboro area included jimmie i barber national president of the alumni association joseph d williams director of alumni affairs at a&t dr albert e smith vice chancellor for development and university relations tony graham see alumni page 2 in his address dowdy commended the philadelphia chapter for their long and distinguished service to the university and to the city today is just the dawn of a new development he said other honorees included ms mozelle battle frank buie ethel byram pearl daniel daisy dial florence madison hill florence hackney susie howell susie snowden alice smith and gretchen young and caudius hackney he was presented a special award by the chapter dowdy came to a&t in 1951 and he has served as director of student teaching dean of instruction acting president and now chancellor association of state univerities and landjg rant colleges which was designed by one of the staff artists is com pleted the book is being sent to delmont publishing company in charlotte in units of 16 pages called signatures approximately 12 signatures are due november 30 the weather delayed scheduling of color see yearbook page 3 the 1978 edition of the ayantee yearbook is well under way the staff con sisting of 34 members from each classification is work ing very hard to meet the col or deadline which is due november 30 by richard steele over half of this year's book is in color the cover ayantee works hard to meet fall
